** IMPORTANT SYSTEM NOTICES **

Updated: March 2, 2007 5 PM Eastern Time

The following contains CRITICAL time sensitive information that will impact on your ability to access and use the Educator eLearning System. Please read and review this information in its entirety as soon as possible.

SYSTEM NOTICE #1: Change in Daylight Savings Time (DST)

The Energy Policy Act of 2005 has changed the effective dates for when Daylight Savings Time is observed in the United States of America and Canada (see below for additional details). As a result, all computer operating systems (e.g. Windows XP, Mac, etc.) used in these countries MUST BE UPDATED to adjust for these new dates BEFORE MARCH 11, 2007.

Information on HOW TO UPDATE your operating system, on your home, school and work computers can be found at: http://resnet.marist.edu/dst/. You MUST update your operating system rather than manually adjusting your clock as manual adjustment will NOT correct the issue.

Failure to update your operating system may result in an INABILITY TO ACCESS the Educator eLearning System or technical problems while using some components of the system. We HIGHLY RECOMMEND that you complete your operating system upgrade as soon as possible.

If you need technical assistance or have other questions about this issue please call the Marist Help Desk at (845) 575-HELP or email them at HelpDesk@Marist.edu.

ADDITIONAL DST DETAILS: The Energy Policy Act of 2005 changed the effective dates that Daylight Saving Time (DST) is observed in the US and Canada to be from the second Sunday in March through the first Sunday in November (March 11, 2007 and November 4, 2007). On March 11, 2007 at 2:00 AM, we will be switching to Daylight Saving Time. Since this is the first change in these dates in 20 years, practically every computer system will have to be updated to handle the new dates.

SYSTEM NOTICE #2: Scheduled Down Time for Infrastructure Upgrade

In order to complete a campus-wide technology infrastructure and system upgrade, the Educator eLearning System will be UNAVAILABLE on Saturday, March 10, 2007 from 5:00 AM Eastern Time to 10:00 AM Eastern Time. Any users in the system at 5 AM will be closed out of the system without notice. Many other systems on the Marist network will also be unavailable during this time. Once the system is back online a notice will be posted on the Educator eLearning System sign-in page indicating that users can begin to use the system again.

We recognize that any system down time is not ideal and creates inconveniences to both students and instructors. The upgrades that will take place during this down time are critical and will benefit all users of the Marist College information technology system. We appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding regarding this issue.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding this down time please contact Josh Baron, Director of Academic Technology and eLearning at Josh.Baron@marist.edu or at (845) 575-3623.
